DREAMS
Olive Schreiner
This book fuses the symbolist poems in prose of Olive Schreiner with the illustrations created by the Swiss symbolist painter Carlos Schwab in 1913 for the publication of their French translation. It is retypeset in the sumptuous Grasset Roman type of that edition, complete with lettrines and ornamentations. Olive Schreiner was a South African writer who is today remembered largely for her novels of frontier life and her anti-war activity. Her early love of symbolist writing has been overshadowed by the more realist nature of her later work, and it is hoped that the richness of her prose poetry will be appreciated by a wider audience with this new edition.
A KING OF DREAMS AND SHADOWS
Salik
The extended symbolist prose poems of the mysterious Salik appeared in London in 1894, and despite exposure in the literary press at the time, their identity was never revealed. The strange dream landscapes of the poems, together with their denizens, have been illustrated in this story with etchings by the French symbolist artist Odilon Redon, to make an artist's book out of their joint sympathies. It is hoped that this new edition will bring Salik's poems to a wider audience, and maybe even lead to further research that finally unlocks the poet's identity.
